Prof. Geoffrey Emi-Reynolds

Prof. Geoffrey Emi-Reynolds graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1981 with a BSc degree in Physics and MSc in Nuclear Physics from the same University in 1986. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Cape Coast also of Ghana.

He joined the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission as a Scientific Officer in 1988 and was the Manager of the Gamma Irradiation Facility of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission from 1993 to 2003.

Prof. Emi-Reynolds is currently a Chief Research Scientist, the Acting Director General of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority and the Chief Regulatory Officer of Ghana. He is the National Coordinator of the African Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA) Project on Nuclear Security in Ghana and was the Chairman of the Nuclear Security Guidance Committee of the IAEA from 2012 to 2014. He was until recently the chairman of the International Network of Nuclear Security Support Centres and Centre of Excellence of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He is a member of the International Emergency Preparedness and Response Expert Group (EPREG) also of the IAEA.

 Prof. Emi-Reynolds’ job entails directing and supervising the National Control Programme on nuclear and radiation sources, and on radiation and Waste Safety control, Training and Education in Protection and Safety. He is also involved in the Emergency Planning and Response at the National and international levels. He also lectures at the Post-Graduate School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences {SNAS} of the University of Ghana in the area of radiation safety and security.
